An original early 20th-century gouache painting The Valley of Shechem, Southern Levant.
A striking illustration, likely biblical, depicting the town and surrounding landscape at Shechem, a Canaanite city of ancient Palestine, near Nablus. The valley of Shechem runs between Mt Gerizim and Mt Ebal, in the Hill Country of Ephraim, and played a vital role in the history of Israel as an important crossroads. It is a preeminent location in the biblical record, beginning with God's promise of the land to Abraham.
