He attended the Royal Academy schools in 1812 to 1813 and in 1816 exhibited views of North Wales. The date of Page's visit to Greece is not known precisely, but it is believed to have been before 1822, during which time he also visited Turkey. He is recorded as being in Athens in 1818. This time of travel provided rich subject matter which it is likely he repeated and revisited for years to come. William Page, along with J.M.W. Turner, contributed illustrations for Finden's Landscape Illustrations to the Life and Works of Byron, published by John Murray in London, 1832–4. Turner had never visited Greece so based some of his subjects on working sketches by Page.

william-page-british-landscape-with-hills-cottages-original-early-19th-century-watercolour-painting-kc-921
Circle of William Page, British Landscape with Hills & Cottages – Early 19th-century watercolour painting

An original early 19th-century watercolour painting – Circle of William Page, British Landscape with Hills & Cottages.

This landscape view in brown wash is one of an interesting collection of works by / attributed to William Page (1794–1872) that we have for sale.

The drawing is left unfinished, revealing the artist's process and significant graphite underdrawing, which might subsequently have been covered.

Other drawings in the collection are by Page, but due to its unfinished nature it is difficult to confidently ascribe the picture to him.
