A vivid miniature set of eight 19th-century Indian gouache paintings on transparent mica depicting street performers, musicians and ascetics. The paintings are small in size, measuring approximately 10 x 7cm.
The detailed, colourful images comprise a Woman with Snake; Bairagi Ascetic in Lotus Position; Juggler; Tightrope Walker; Dholak Drum-player; Sanyasi Wearing Tiger Skin; Muslim Fakir with Prayer Beads; Bairagi Ascetic with Prayer Beads.
Indian Company paintings on mica are rare; it is estimated that as of now, there are only around 7,000 mica paintings available in the world.
The mica is loose with no mount or backing.
