An original early 19th-century watercolour painting – Circle of William Page, Coastline with Ruin Wall, Possibly Corfu, Greece.
This interesting watercolour forms part of our William Page (1794–1872) collection. It matches a composition by Page in the British Museum (1995,0121.16). The present drawing is inscribed 'Mrs C.J. No.4', which suggests that it is possibly a copy of Page's original by one of his pupils. Page is known to have been a drawing master; the British Museum sketch is part of a group of works related to a pupil, Harriet Pemberton, and includes works by both Page and Pemberton. In the Pemberton group there is a coastal view at Corfu. This brief sketch resembles that topography and is likely in that region.
This painting is one of an interesting collection of works by / attributed to William Page that we have for sale.
In watercolour over pencil on rough paper.
