14 Manuscript Sheets 1830s Transcribed Poetry: Byron, T.K. Hervey & David Davies

An original 1830s pen & ink drawing, 14 Manuscript Sheets, Transcribed Poetry, Byron, T.K. Hervey & David Davies.

This interesting batch of fourteen manuscript sheets accompanies a collection of watercolour portrait paintings we have for sale separately. The manuscripts are possibly connected with the family of Welsh industrialist David Davies Llandinam (1818-1890). One of the poems in the batch is signed 'David Davies July 13th 1835' and another is initialled 'D.D.', both of which appear to be original compositions. Another signature reads 'Elizabeth' - David Davies's mother's name (his father was also David Davies d.1846 - so it is possible the signed verses are is by his hand rather than his son's). Other transcriptions include verses by Byron and T.K. Hervey. One transcription is signed 'Anne, Northwick June 23, 1837' - quite possibly Anne Rushout, sister of John Rushout, 1st Baron Northwick. Another later transcription is signed 'Arthur Charles Gabell Sept 1865' - Arthur Charles was born in 1848 at Crickhowell, Breconshire, further linking the manuscripts to Wales.

Overall in fair condition, much of the paper is age toned, and the edges of the sheets are rather tatty, as shown.
Various sheet sizes, approx. 26cm x 20.8cm.
