This drawing forms part of an interesting collection of works we have for sale by Adeline Frances Mary Dart (1845-1895), later Adeline Frances Mary Duppa. The collection records locations principally in Hampshire, Kent and Salisbury, and abroad in Switzerland, Italy and the Alps. Depicting country estates and favoured Grand Tour views, these drawings tell of the travels of an affluent young English lady in the mid-19th century. Born in 1845 at St Pancras, London, ‘Fanny’ Dart had connections with Kent (she was to marry Baldwin Francis Duppa (1828-1873) of Hollingbourne House, Kent), and Hampshire – her daughter was baptised at Christchurch in 1870, and her brother lived at Beech House, Ringwood. Under her married name, Adeline Frances Mary Duppa (fl. 1870s-1880s), she has drawings in the Natural History Museum of Italian and Maderia plants and English fungi, which are included in the Dictionary Of British And Irish Botanists And Horticulturists.
Please note that the separate signature and date (see photograph) is pictured for information only and does not come with the drawing.
