This charming painting is the original hand-painted artwork for a children’s jigsaw by illustrator Alan Fredman. Fredman has created a cast of cute characters featuring Mr Snail and his animal friends. The gouache is pristine, with assured, crisp brushstrokes and vibrant colours. On Frome watercolour board.

Signed and inscribed below the image.
In excellent condition in the image. The corners of the paper, well away from the image, are slightly tatty. The painting is overlaid with a protective sheet of paper, hinged above the image.

This is one of a small collection of children's paintings we have by Alan Fredman. Fredman was an illustrator of children's books, including Animal Board Books and many covers for Enid Blyton stories in the 1940s/50s, such as "Shuffle the Shoemaker", "The Adventures of Binkle and Flip" and "Bimbo and Topsy".
