An original early 19th-century pen & ink drawing, Alfred Edward Chalon RA, Miss Eagles Caricature.
An amusing caricatural sketch by the distinguished Victorian portrait painter Alfred Edward Chalon RA (1780–1860).
Chalon produced many similar caricature sketches in London during the period 1820 to 1840, depicting opera, ballet and theatre performers, which are now in the collection of the V&A. Here he satirises 'Miss Eagles', possibly a stage performer, a buxom woman possibly shown 'treading the boards'.
In brown ink on cream laid paper (19.2 x 14.7cm) laid down on cream wove backing paper.
