This work is from a small collection of exquisite British botanical watercolours by various hands, dated 1825 and 1826. The crisp details of these paintings is especially impressive. For the most part the subjects are British flora, and in particular typical wild flowers found commonly in hedgerows across the British Isles. The collection also includes a couple of more tropical subjects – colourful hummingbirds and butterflies – which would have been particularly exotic to these British artists in the early 19th century. The signatures include a number by M.H. Potter, as well as Alfred Potter, Miss Mason and Mrs Charles Greenway.
