In fine condition for its age.

This painting forms part of a collection of watercolours that we have for sale dating from 1900 and depicting views mainly in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The artist is one A.M. Colebrooke. We have further associated watercolours by E.L. Colebrooke, depicting views around the Lake District and North Yorkshire coast.

The identity of the artists is unknown, but they were evidently people with the means to paint and travel, visiting the countries of Scandinavia, which were lesser travelled at the time. It is possible that they are Edward Lotherington Colebrooke and Alice Mary Colebrooke (née Austen – daughter of naval captain, Capt. Herbert Grey Austen R.N., a relative of Jane Austen), who married in 1894. Edward Lotherington Colebrooke was educated at Exeter College, Oxford and became a priest of the Church of England.
