Anthropomorphised Smoking Dog - Original 19th-century pen & ink drawing

An original 19th-century pen & ink drawing, Anthropomorphised Smoking Dog.

This eccentric, characterful drawing depicts a bear/monkey/dog-like animal smoking a long pipe in smoking jacket and cravat. He glances somewhat sheepishly at the viewer, in a wonderfully anthropomorphised manner. The drawing typifies the Victorian taste for comic cartoons with animals given human-like qualities. In pen and ink on pale blue paper with a decorative embossed border.

Initialled indistinctly lower right.
In good condition for its age.
