A beautifully tranquil seascape by Arderne Clarence, depicting sailing boats on flat waters. In an attractive, limited colour palette, the painting has a lovely feeling of peace and calm. Laid down on card.

Arderne Clarence (1882-1966) was born in South Africa but returned to England with his mother at an early age. He was educated at Rugby School and Exeter College, Oxford in 1901. He then went on to study art in Paris and under Frank Brangwyn. Clarence served in France during the First World War and also went on a Grand Tour, developing a love of travel. He had links with Cornwall and specifically the St Ives Society of Artists.
