An original 1660 engraving print, Arx Britannica, Netherlands Hand Coloured Map.

Arx Britannica was a Roman fortress at the mouth of the River Rhine in Holland. The remains of the fort were a prominent geological landmark which could be seen at low tide. By the end of the 17th century the site was subsumed by the sea. This is a rare hand-coloured engraving on laid. We acquired the print with the attribution 1660.

Unsigned.
Trimmed as shown. There is a vertical fold crease down the centre and small nicks to the left edge. Other light creasing and age toning as shown.
