Attrib Evelyn Chester, Still Life Grapes & Peach,Early 20th-century oil painting

An original early 20th-century oil painting, Attrib. Evelyn Chester Still Life with Grapes & Peach.

A very attractive wide-format still life with flowers and fruit. Although this painting is unsigned, it strongly resembles the work of Evelyn Chester (1875-1929). Still life artist Evelyn Chester painted with wonderfully textural brushstrokes, with impressionist effect dappled backgrounds. Oil on thin board.

The card is age toned (visible on the verso) and is somewhat brittle, which has resulted in small losses to the edges, and at the upper left corner, as shown. There are also three repaired tears to the edges: at the top, right and bottom, the bottom tear extending approximately 3cm upwards.
20cm x 50.3cm.

Evelyn (née Davy) Chester (1875-1929) is known for painting still lifes of flowers and fruit in oil, rendered in rich oranges, reds, purples, greens and browns. The paintings are sumptuous and tactile - the fruit good enough to eat - whilst also having a lightness of touch, capturing the delicate fragility of flower petals.
