August H. Binder, Wohnzimmer 1930s German Living Room - 1931 gouache painting

An original 1931 gouache painting, August H. Binder Wohnzimmer 1930s German Living Room Design.

This is an superb example of a German interior dating from 1931, produced by Frankfurt architect August H. Binder. Very much of its time, the room is furnished with an understated elegance, with handsome period furniture in sumptuous maroons and deftly placed pictures, sculpture, plant and lamp. This painting provides an aspirational vision or showpiece of an ideal home at a time when Germany as a whole was in dire financial crisis.

The painting bears the architect's stamp at the lower right of the image (August H. Binder, Architekt, Frankfurt A.Main, Westendstrasse) and is in its original card window mount. The mount is signed lower left and dated lower right, and is inscribed in German towards the upper edge as shown (listing room features such as Silberschrank and Schlafcouch).

Signed lower left. Dated lower right.
In good condition for its age. There is a closed tear in the paper at the right edge under the mount, which does not affect the front view.
24.9cm x 32.7cm.
Unframed.
