This work is from an intriguing group of pictures we have for sale which includes a watercolour landscape by Sam Bough RSA (1822–1878). Whilst only one picture in the collection is attributed to Bough, it is interesting to consider whether others may be by his hand. The collection includes some fine sailboat studies, and Bough, who moved from England to Scotland, became an accomplished painter of sea ports, in Glasgow and Edinburgh. The collection also comprises various picturesque landscape watercolours in sepia tones, including some Scottish views.
