An original 19th-century watercolour painting, C.W.S., Faith, Woman in Prayer.
A beautifully painted watercolour portrait in oval.
This painting is after an Italian Renaissance oil painting in the collection of Gettysburg College, which is attributed simply to an 'Italian Artist'. Little is known about the original other than that it was donated to Gettysburg College in 1931 by Dr Jeremiah Zimmerman, who graduated from Gettysburg College in 1873. Interestingly, the artwork was evidently in the public consciousness enough for this small watercolour study to be produced by what was presumably an amateur British hand in the 19th century.
The paper has been cut to an oval shape as shown.
