An original early 20th-century watercolour painting, Continental Town Miniature.
A sweet watercolour of a charming rural scene, in miniature. On blue paper.
Age toning. There are small pieces of tape visible at the lower corners, a small loss at the lower right corner, and minor abrasions to the upper corners. There are small paper remnants to the corners on the verso from having historically been laid down.
7.3cm x 12.1cm.
Miniature art has a unique appeal. Miniatures became especially popular in Europe in the 16th century, and became increasingly popular in the 17th and 18th centuries. Condensed into a small composition, the key components of a view can be used to communicate the effect of an entire landscape.
