The sentiment of the drawing is explained on the verso, where the artist writes: 'May this sketch, tho't is indifferent, / Be the picture of your life. / Calm and smooth and without Tempests, / Free from all misfortunes strife.' The drawing is dated 'Rottm 25 July 1808' and is signed 'This is the true wish of yr. Friend & Humble Servt D.s Burger Jun.r'.
