Indian Company School Indian Green Bee-eater Bird in Flight with Bee
An original c.1830 watercolour painting, Indian Company School, Indian Green Bee-eater Bird in Flight with Bee.
A superb example of a Indian Company painting and part of an outstanding collection of Indian bird subjects that we have for sale.
As is typical for Company School style, the bird is painted with tremendously vivid opacity and fine detail. The bird is captured in swooping flight, with a small bee caught delicately in the bird's beak.
The Green Bee-eater (Merops orientalis), also known as little green bee-eater, is found in Africa, Arabia and Asia. The M. o. orientalis subspecies is native to India and characteristically has its head and neck tinged with rufous.
