The paintings are by at least two different hands, including 'Maggie' and 'S. Mattocks'. This particular subject is inspired by lines from Sir Walter Scott's poem 'Marmion'.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAs such, this painting represents the amateur artistic activity that was burgeoning in the Lake District towards the end of the 19th century.
