R.J. Blesard Ghaistrill's Strid above Linton Bridge, Craven, Yorkshire Dales
An original 1833 watercolour painting, R.J. Blesard, Ghaistrill's Strid above Linton Bridge, Craven, Yorkshire Dales.
A superb, intensely coloured topographical watercolour, executed during an 1833 Yorkshire tour.
The artist is believed to be Robert John Blesard (1809–1839) of Woodhouse, Leeds, son of a woollen merchant and descendent of the prominent Quaker Blesard family of Guiseley.
Small gentlemen figures—possibly a self-portrait of the artist—wonderfully enliven the scene.
With gum arabic to intensify the colour and scratching out to the water.
