An original 19th-century chinese painting on pith – Circle of Tingqua, Flowering Branch with Butterflies & Insect.
An exceptional, large 19th-century Chinese painting on pith depicting flowers and insects.
The confident handling and fine detail to the branch and tendrils is in the style of Tingqua (1809–1870) also known as Guan Lianchang, the younger brother of Lamqua and the most famous of the Canton (Guangzhou) artists.
In vibrant gouache on pith, mounted on wove paper with original blue silk mounting ribbon.

Condition: The pith painting is in exceptionally good condition, which is rare for paintings of this size. Some slight age toning and a few very small scuffs to the surface in the lower right quarter. Tiny nicks to the pith at the right edge, lower edge and upper left corner. Please see photos for detail.
