This is a fine collection of 19th-century Victorian pen & ink hand-drawn satirical cartoons and caricatures. Many of the drawings are after illustrator Robert Seymour's popular lithographs in 'Sketches by Seymour'; others are after renowned Punch illustrator John Leech. Very much a record of their time, many of the cartoons satirise contemporary figures and preoccupations, such as bourgeois anxieties over the rise of the urban working classes, the pompous activities of the gentleman game shooter and gluttonous alderman, the prudish lady bather and snobbish lady about town.
