S&W Collection

These beautiful and varied pictures, often small in scale, were collected in the Georgian period, in the early decades of the 19th century. Popular subjects of the day include girls in Regency dress, finely painted animals and flowers, picturesque landscapes and ruins, Romantic literary themes and mourning pictures. Like the period they represent, these pictures often have a refined elegance and sometimes meditate on themes of great gravity, melancholy or high moral seriousness.
