S&W Collection

This collection of immensely appealing Victorian drawings belong to the Naive School—an often imitated and highly collectible style, evidencing a lack of formal training. Executed on a European Tour, encompassing Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Norway, they display the charming frankness and flat rendering style associated with Naive art, and date from around the year when Naive art was 'discovered': in 1885 the painter Paul Signac became aware of the talents of Henri Rousseau, the so-called father of Naive art.
