An interesting early view of Lloyd's Road in Madras (now Chennai), India in 1916. This is one of three views in Madras by the same hand, two of which are dated (see stock numbers KD-050 and KD-053).

Late-Edwardian Sketches: SS Golconda, India & Burma

This is one of a group of stylish works dating from the late Edwardian / Pre-World War One period, collected by a Walter E. Good (1911–1918). Some of the drawings were executed onboard SS Golconda, a British India Line service from London to Calcutta, whilst others were sketched at Madras and in Burma. The pictures embody the humour and aesthetic of a time of modernisation and social change in Britain, which was in conflict and tension with lingering traditions and class structures from the 19th century.
