An original mid-19th-century graphite drawing Charles & Infant Progeny.
A fantastic, expressive sketch, deftly executed in graphite and watercolour wash.
The identity of the artist and the subject are unconfirmed. Might the angular figure be that of the Victorian priest, university professor, social reformer, historian, novelist and poet Charles Kingsley (1819–1875)? Kingsley had four children, one of whom became a novelist.
Provenance: William Drummond (Covent Garden Gallery, London).
