An original 1910s pen & ink drawing, G. Cervelli, William Tell Trio (Trio de Guillaume Tell) Satirical Cartoon.
A fabulous comic ink drawing by French cartoonist and artist G. Cervelli (fl.1910–1920). William Tell was a Swiss folk hero who was an important symbol during the formative stage of modern Switzerland in the 19th century; here William Tell is conceived in three very different guises, all declaring to be him. In this characterful trio, Cervelli satirises the human tendency to mythologise and our susceptibility to hero-worship.
In pen and ink with graphite underdrawing. There are additional ink sketches on the verso.
